A Period of Animate Existence (2019) is an epic music and theater collaboration between composer Troy Herion, OBIE-winning Pig Iron Theatre, and 2016 MacArthur Fellow Mimi Lien.
Children, elders, and machines take turns contemplating the future over the course of five genre-defying musical theater movements. Featuring 100 performers including the Grammy®-winning choir The Crossing, New York’s Contemporaneous chamber orchestra, and members of the Philadelphia Boys Choir & Chorale and Philadelphia Girls Choir, and Philomusica, A Period of Animate Existence takes a grand view of life’s trajectory and the role we play in shaping the future of our planet.
